SALINE COUNTY — A man is in the Saline County Jail after he allegedly threatened several family members with a firearm at a home in Harrisburg shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday and had at one point discharged the firearm into the air.

Harrisburg Police responded to the home and contacted the suspect, Joshua T. Hodge, by phone. Hodge was still inside the home and refused to come out.

Officers tried several times to convince Hodge to give up over the next several hours. It was determined by officers at the scene that a SWAT team was needed to get Hodge to surrender and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System SWAT Team was contacted.

The ILEAS team responded and tried to get Hodge to surrender. At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the SWAT team made entry into the home where Hodge was taken into custody. SWAT officers had to use a taser to subdue Hodge.

Subsequent to Hodge’s arrest, officers recovered a loaded Glock 22 handgun and one spent shell casing in the yard.

Hodge was taken to the Saline County Detention Center where he is lodged on a parole violation from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Hodge was informally charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault. Hodge is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
