CENTRALIA — The 13-year-old Centralia boy shot in the head over the weekend was pronounced dead from his injuries shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.
According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, his department arrested a 15-year-old male at about 11 a.m. Monday in connection with the shooting death.
Police received a 911 call at 5:47 a.m. Saturday from a home in the 100 block of South Pine in Centralia reporting someone had been shot.
Centralia Fire Department and Lifestar EMS treated the victim on scene and the juvenile was transported to St Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, before being transported to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St Louis.
Later in the day Saturday, four juveniles who were at the scene of the shooting were detained before being released without being charged.
Centralia Police Investigators spent Sunday following up on leads from the case. The Southern Illinois Child Death Investigation Task Force is assisting the Centralia Police Department with additional investigators.
Since this matter is a pending investigation, no further details are being released at this time.
