MT. VERNON, IL — It was a bittersweet moment for the Mt. Vernon City Council at Monday night’s meeting as former leadership said good-bye and new has been sworn in. New councilman Ray Botch will take over for Jeff May and the council also swore-in Donte Moore who retains his seat.

May gave a short thank you and nods the current city officials and all the work they’ve accomplished during his tenure.

Mayor John Lewis says May has agreed to stay on as a volunteer to the water and sewer committee.

City Manager Mary-Ellen Bechtel also reached an employment agreement with the city to serve through April of 2023.
