SPRINGFIELD, IL — Wet weather continued across the state last week and farmers had to keep their machinery in the sheds yet again. Topsoil moisture was rated 26% adequate and 74% surplus while subsoil moisture was 34% adequate and 66% surplus.

Crop Statistician with the Heartland Regional Field Office, Mark Schleusner says not only was it wet, but it was colder than normal too.

Rainfall totals were above normal around the state and ranged from more than 1.5 inches to more than 4 inches in the 7 days leading up to Sunday. Schleusner says wet ground kept planting numbers low.
