MASSAC COUNTY — Illinois State Police say no foul play is suspected in last month’s incident at Joppa-Maple Grove Elementary School in Massac County.

ISP and several police agencies responded to the school at 1:20 p.m. on April 5 after getting reports of a person being shot at the school. ISP was the lead agency investigating the incident which happened outside of the school involving a school district employee. The district employee was the only person involved in the incident and received a very minor injury.

Officials say at the conclusion of the investigation, it is believed the stray rifle round was fired from a long distance away in the rural area surrounding the school on April 5. There is no indication the school or anyone at the school was specifically targeted.

No additional information will be released regarding this incident.
