ILLINOIS (RFD) — USDA announcing yet another trade mitigation package for farmers. It includes $14.5 billion in direct payments. Here’s reaction from Illinois Farm Bureau’s Adam Nielsen.

Jonathan Coppess is with the University of Illinois College of Agricultural and Consumer Economics. He worries the payments may create more problems.

Payments will be based on one county rate – regardless of commodity planted. County rates will be announced later. USDA estimates the first payment to be made in July/August.
