FAYETTE COUNTY — A stipulated bench trial has been scheduled for July 11 on the fitness evaluation of a 70-year-old man charged with murder in Fayette County.
David Leroy Bright was arrested in January of 2018 in connection with the death of James Skinner of Brownstown in September of 2017.
The two counts of first-degree murder lodged against Bright are Class M felonies, each punishable by 20 years to life in prison.
The stipulated bench trial was scheduled during a court appearance Friday. The judge, rather than a jury, will consider the findings of Dr. Terry Killian, who examined Bright as to his fitness. If Bright is found fit to stand trial, the case could continue.
Bright remains in the Fayette County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
