CLINTON COUNTY — A 38-year-old Beckemeyer woman charged with reckless homicide in the 2017 death of her toddler, who she allegedly ran over with her vehicle, will serve 5-years in prison after she pleaded guilty Wednesday to three of the multiple charges against her in three cases.

Nicole Voss pleaded guilty to one count aggravated driving under the influence resulting in the death of 2-year-old Jensen Voss for allegedly having methamphetamine in her system at the time.

Voss was sentenced to 5-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections to be followed by 2-years mandatory supervised release.

In that same case, she was sentenced to serve concurrently a 3-year prison sentence for a Class 4 felony charge of aggravated DUI, with one-year mandatory supervised release.

Charges in that case of driving while license revoked, reckless homicide, and aggravated DUI were dismissed per the plea agreement.

In another case, she was sentenced to serve a 3-year concurrent sentence for a Class 3 felony charge of possessing less than 5-grams of meth, with one-year mandatory supervised release. A misdemeanor charge in that case of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.

A charge of criminal damage to property in a third case resulted in a sentence of 364 days in the Clinton County Jail, with credit for time served.

Charges of felony driving while license revoked, and misdemeanor criminal trespass were also dismissed per the plea agreement.

Clinton County prosecutors alleged the 2-year-old Jenson was in an SUV parked in a Keyesport driveway on Aug. 7, 2017, when he apparently climbed out as Nicole Voss was getting ready to drive the vehicle.

The mother did not realize her son wasn’t in the vehicle and began to drive away, striking and killing the child.

According to witnesses, before going over to her son, Voss got back into the car, rummaged around and went to hide a plastic baggie before attending to the child and calling 911.

A witness reportedly began performing CPR on the child after he was hit, but Clinton County Coroner Phillip Moss declared the child dead that afternoon.

Police reports say neither Jensen nor a younger sibling was restrained in the vehicle at the time and that Jensen was trying to retrieve a toy from under the vehicle when he was struck.
