BENTON — The Benton City Council is expected to approve the resignation of Police Chief Kyle Melvin and name an interim police chief when it meets Monday night at 6 at City Hall.
Melvin, who has been with Benton Police since 2008, became police chief in April 2016 when Chief Mike Andrews resigned in February 2016 to move back into investigations with the police department. Melvin was named interim chief at that time and had the interim tag removed several weeks later when the city council named him police chief.
The council is also expected to discuss and/or approve a one-year contract for Fire Chief Shane Cockrum.
Other items on Monday night’s agenda include discussion and/or approval of appointing a water and sewer superintendent with a four year contract, moving forward with the interview process for the water clerk/deputy city clerk position, approve a four year contract for the community relations director, accept the resignation of Vickee Cockrum from the Civic Center Authority Board and approve Joellen Bauer to the board and appointing a zoning administrator/code enforcer with an 18 month contract.
The meeting is open to the public.
