REND LAKE — Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual Rend Lake Fireworks on Saturday, July 6 at 9 p.m.

Franklin County Sheriff David Bartoni says the sheriff’s office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Franklin County Emergency Management, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Sesser Fire Protection District and Abbott EMS will be working to ensure the public’s safety.

Traffic will be controlled so vehicles can leave as quickly as possible at the end of the fireworks.

Sheriff Bartoni says Dam Road will be shut down to all traffic at 8:30 p.m. and will continue until after the launch area has been declared safe.

The following information should help you with leave safely depending on where you go to watch the fireworks.

All vehicles parked on the east side of the spillway will exit to the east to the intersection of Licata (lah-cot-ah) Road and Mine 24 Road.

All vehicles parked on the west side of the dam will exit south on Rend City Road.

All vehicles parked in South Sandusky Beach will exit to the west on Rend City Road.

All vehicles parked in the North Marcum area will exit north on Larry Foster Parkway.

The sheriff hopes everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July Celebration.
