EFFINGHAM, IL — One person was killed Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 57 in Effingham County.
According to preliminary reports, emergency personnel responded around 8:40 a.m. to a crash involving a dual rear wheel equipped pick-up truck with a contractor’s bed.
The truck reportedly left the roadway on the outside shoulder causing the vehicle to flip over multiple times before crashing into the tree-line on the outside shoulder.
The unidentified driver, a male in his late 20′ or early 30’s was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and sustained traumatic head injuries.
A witness to the crash stopped to assist and was performing CPR on the victim when Effingham Fire Fighters and Abbott EMS arrived on the scene.
A medical helicopter was initially called to the scene, but the helicopter was not used.
