FAYETTE COUNTY — A 40-year-old Vandalia woman was killed and another Vandalia woman injured in a two-vehicle, head-on, crash Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Route 40 between Vandalia and Bluff City..

According to Illinois State Police, Jessica Lynn Wagner was westbound on Route 40 around 4:15 Wednesday afternoon when she crossed into the oncoming lane causing a head-n collision with a vehicle being driven by 59-year-old Penny L. Wilson who was traveling eastbound.

ISP says Wagner was killed in the crash and Wilson was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Route 40 in that area remained closed for about five hours.
