BENTON — The Franklin County Board will hold a special meeting Friday at noon at the Campbell Building in Benton to appoint a new State’s Attorney to replace Evan Owens.
Owens was recently appointed as an associate judge of the Second Judicial Circuit. Owens has served as State’s Attorney in Franklin County since 2010. His last day is today. The County Board accepted his resignation last week.
The County Board met with those interested in becoming State’s Attorney earlier this week. Since Owens is a Democrat, state statute requires his successor to be from the same political party. Whoever is chosen will finish up Owens’ term which will be up for election next year.
