CENTRALIA — Results of a Thursday autopsy on a body discovered Tuesday in an abandoned Centralia home show it was a male older than 40 but did not reveal his identity.
Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison said Friday that the preliminary findings of the autopsy conducted at the Champaign County Coroner’s Office revealed the deceased was a white male approximately 5-feet 5-inches to 5-feet 8-inches tall.
Atchison says due to an advanced state of decomposition, the subject is still unidentified but is believed to be older than 40.
The initial conditions of the remains led investigators to estimate that the subject has been deceased for approximately 7 to 14 days.
Additional laboratory testing is being completed to attempt to help determine a more exact time of death, as well as a more accurate estimate of the age and identifying factors of the subject.
Centralia police continue to investigate the discovery of the body and asks anyone with information of a subject meeting these preliminary descriptors, who has gone missing during this time frame to contact the Centralia Police Department’s Investigation Division.
