MARION COUNTY — A 61-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault with force.

According to Centralia police, James Hopper was arrested Sunday for the alleged rape of a 47-year-old woman in the camper trailer where both were staying.

Hopper allegedly locked the doors of the camper before pinning the woman down and sexually assaulting her.

After the woman began throwing things at Hopper he reportedly unlocked and allowed the woman to leave. She went to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia after calling the police to report the incident.

Hopper was taken to the Marion County Jail where he remains awaiting the formal filing of the charge against him and the setting of bail Monday afternoon.
