MARION COUNTY — A 50-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at another man confronting him about hunting on his brother’s property.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Johnston, who is reportedly homeless, was arrested after he was tracked to a nearby home for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
The incident reportedly occurred around noon Saturday in the 1000 block of Bethel Road in rural Sandoval.
Johnston reportedly fled on foot into a wooded area after the confrontation, with the man who says Johnston pointed the gun at him chasing after him.
The alleged victim reportedly told deputies that when Johnston came back into an open field he no longer had the gun. Johnston was able to again flee.
After identifying Johnston as a possible suspect, deputies went to a home where they believed he was staying but no one would answer the door.
When deputies learned Johnston had returned to the home, they went back and arrested him without incident.
The rifle Johnston had allegedly pointed at the other man was found in the wooded area where Johnston is suspected of dropping it.
Johnston was taken to the Marion County Jail where he is being held pending a first appearance in court.
