BENTON — The Benton City Council approved the presented tax levy at Monday night’s meeting.

According to Benton City Clerk Brook Craig, letters were submitted to the mayor requesting $258,878 to be levied for the Fire Pension and $329,307 to be levied for the Police Pension. These amounts were the amounts recommended by Tepfer Consulting Firm who did the Actuarial Reports for both funds. These letters were presented to the council. The council approved the presented tax levy. It was filed Tuesday.

In other business, the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 audit and health insurance renewal were both approved. The council approved allowing the liquor license holders to stay open until 2 a.m. instead of midnight on Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve. The council approved placing a fence around the generator at city hall for $1,855.

Also at Monday’s meeting, Reg Ankrom from SIMEC spoke to the council saying that he had negotiated a new price for the electric aggregation. It is $0.04584 cents per kilowatt hour. It will take effect in June. Ankrom stated that all citizens will get a packet explaining the price drop before it happens.
