MARION COUNTY — According to the Illinois Petroleum Resource Board, Marion County was the second-largest oil-producing county in Illinois for 2019.

The figures were compiled by the state and released by the resource board. They indicate Marion County produced more than 850,000 barrels of oil last year, second only to White County, which produced nearly 2, 050,000 barrels of oil.

Statewide figures show Illinois produced more than 8 million barrels of oil, which was down 2.3 percent from 2018.

The top five oil-producing counties in Illinois for 2019 were Crawford with more than 740,000 barrels, Lawrence with nearly 640,000 and Fayette County with more than 575,000.

Figures also show Wayne County produced 327,000 barrels of oil, Clay County produced 296,000 barrels, and Jefferson County produced 172,000 barrels of oil.
