MCLEANSBORO — The McLeansboro City Council reviewed city emergency procedures, but took no action on the measure at a special council meeting Friday afternoon.

City Clerk Fred Vallowe told the council that per city code, a disaster declaration can only last 48 hours without council approval. He says part of the authority the city would have during a disaster declaration would be to ration certain supplies, like toilet paper or hand sanitizer that has been hard to come by the last couple weeks.

The city did take action on a few items at the special meeting. The board voted 5-1 to allow Teddy Little to provide the city’s summer mowing services for the low bid of $615. The board also voted unanimously to provide an incentive for city residents that fill out the census and also to purchase playground equipment for the city reservoir. The city’s deputy clerk Cindy Inboden told the council that the equipment is 40 percent off the rest of the month, which saves taxpayers almost $20,000. The roughly $28,000 price tag will be funded through gaming / cannabis / alcohol tax money.
