SALEM, IL — Salem Police are asking the public for information regarding two possibly Hispanic males suspected of theft of cash and jewelry from an elderly woman’s home in the 300 block of Roddy Road Monday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m., they reportedly went to a side door of the woman’s home and one identified himself as being with the water department and told her he needed to see her bathroom.
While she was with the first man in the bathroom, a second man allegedly entered the home and went to her bedroom where he took a jewelry box and $300 cash.
At some point the woman heard a noise in the bedroom and discovered the second man. They reportedly left the home in a gray SUV southbound on Roddy Road. The woman was not injured.
The woman contacted Salem police who searched the area but were unable to find the subjects.
One of the subjects is described as a heavyset Hispanic male, while the other was described as skinny and a little taller. Both were reportedly wearing white tee-shirts and jeans and had mustaches.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 548-2232.
