ILLINOIS — Governor J.B. Pritzker has cancelled the rest of the 2019-2020 school year for Illinois students.

He made that announcement Friday at his daily press conference.

Schools have been shut down since March 17th because of the coronavirus. The original shutdown was to last until March 30th.  It was then extended until April 30th.

In an effort to show support for the class of 2020 and healthcare and other essential workers fighting the pandemic, many schools across the state are joining in to “Light for the Fight”, turning on their athletic field lights for 20 minutes Friday night from 8 to 8:20 p.m.
