FAYETTE COUNTY, IL — A 34-year-old Herrick man charged in Fayette County Court with attempted first-degree murder is now facing charges accusing him of attempted escape. Trevor McCammack has been held in the Fayette County Jail since his September 2019 arrest stemming from the shooting of a man in Shobonier.
McCammack was arrested following a manhunt of several hours near Shobonier where deputies had responded to an early morning call from a resident saying a man covered in blood showed up at his home saying he’d been shot. When deputies arrived they found David Troxell had been shot multiple times.
Troxell was initially transported by ambulance to the Fayette County Hospital but was later transferred to a Springfield area hospital for surgery. He was ultimately released from the hospital.
Deputies tracked McCammack down to a cornfield north of a bar in Shobonier and took him into custody. He’s remained in the Fayette County Jail since his arrest, with bail set at $1 million.
He was initially charged with Class X felony attempted first-degree murder, Class X felony aggravated battery with a firearm, and Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Then in October of this year, McCammack and another inmate, 48-year-old Richard Eddy of Vandalia, were charged with Class 3 felony attempted escape and Class 4 felony criminal damage to government property for their alleged attempt to escape from the Fayette County Jail.
A hearing Wednesday on McCammack’s attempted murder case was continued until January 7, while his escape case is next scheduled for a December 22 hearing.
