MT. VERNON, IL — A 14-year-old juvenile male was arrested early Wednesday morning when Mt. Vernon Police Officers responded to a burglary alarm activated at King City Liquors in the 300 block of South 12th Street. Upon their arrival, officers reportedly observed forced entry to the business and began a search but did not locate anyone inside.

They then began checking other nearby businesses. While doing so, an officer made contact with a 14-year-old male in the area of the Plaza Liquor Mart at 650 South 10th. After reviewing video from the King City Liquors burglary, officers took the 14-year-old into custody. During a search of the teen, officers located property believed to have been stolen during the original burglary. Detectives from the MVPD were called in to assist with the investigation. The Juvenile was subsequently charged with Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property.

He was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility where he will await a pending court appearance.
