CENTRALIA, IL — A two-vehicle crash Tuesday night on State Route 161 at Racetrack Road east of Centralia resulted in three people being injured – one of whom was airlifted for treatment.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, 23-year-old Breanna Shanafelt, of Centralia, was traveling westbound on Route 161 when she stopped to make a left turn onto Racetrack Road. At that same time, a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Mark Riggs, of Marshall, struck the Shafelt vehicle in the rear. A passenger in the Shanafelt car, 23-year-old Joshua Scott, of Salem, was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and was later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment. Breanna Shanafelt and a second passenger, 19-year-old Shiann Shanafelt, also of Centralia, sought treatment on their own at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.
