Doris Maxine (Little) Thompson, 91, of Norris City, IL passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, IL.

Doris was born on November 4, 1931 in McLeansboro, IL the daughter of Roy Clinton and Lena (Sanders) Little.  On July 3, 1948 she married Truman Thompson, who preceded her in death on September 27, 2007.

Doris was a homemaker and helped with farming.  She attended the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in McLeansboro.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles and word find puzzles, and she loved watching the Golden State Warriors basketball games.  She was a gifted poet and enjoyed writing poems.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and loved them dearly.

Doris is survived by 2 daughters: Carla O’Neal and Lynn Callis both of Norris City, IL; 7 grandchildren: Angela (James) Talley of Franklin, TN; Justin Nelson of Carmi, IL; Bryce Nelson and Brandi Nelson, both of Norris City; Larry (Sandy) O’Neal of Dallas, TX; Sherri (David) Gambrel of Mt. Vernon, IN and Terri (Bret) Meredith of Carmi; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 20 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by both parents Roy Clinton and Lena (Sanders) Little, her husband Truman Thompson, 2 son-in-laws: Otis O’Neal and Roye Callis, a sister Betty Rowe, and 4 brothers: Randall Little, Elvis Parmley, Dwight Parmley and Robert Parmley, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Doris Maxine (Little) Thompson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Bro. Bill Prince officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.  Interment will follow the funeral service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Doris’ honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
