CENTRALIA — A faulty HVAC motor caused a scare for many Thursday morning when Centralia Fire Protection received a call of a possible fire at a popular local restaurant.
CFPD responded around 8 a.m. Thursday to Monical’s Pizza in Centralia on reports of smoke coming from the building. Central City police evacuated the building where smoke was coming from the building’s air vents and its utilities were shut off.
Both lanes of North Elm were temporarily closed while fire crews were present but quickly reopened one at a time. The last fire crew left the scene around 9:15 a.m.
According to social media posts from the restaurant, they plan to open the restaurant as usual.
Centralia Fire Department, Sandoval Fire Protection District and Lifestar and Central City Police and Centralia ESDA assisted on the scene, and Odin and Irvington Fire stood by at the Protection District station in case of other emergencies.
