CENTRALIA — Authorities have released the name of a 30-year-old man killed late Tuesday morning in a police-involved shooting in Centralia.

According to Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon, he pronounced Todd Pearce dead at the scene Tuesday morning.

Centralia police reported Tuesday that officers learned of an individual being at a residence that was in violation of a court order.

Just before 11 a.m., officers were allowed into the residence to search for the person and when they found him he immediately charged the officers with a knife.

They say less lethal force options were initially used but were unsuccessful in stopping the attack. The officer being attacked then reportedly fired his duty weapon striking the man.

Reports say officers immediately began to provide treatment to the man. EMS subsequently arrived and assumed life-saving measures but he died on scene.

One officer was reportedly stabbed during the incident. The officer was later treated and released from an area hospital.

Due to the incident being an officer-involved shooting, the investigation was immediately turned over to the Illinois State Police but they haven’t released any further information about this incident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.

Pearce was charged last month in Marion County Court with domestic violence. The court ordered he have no contact with the alleged victims in the case, their residence, place of employment or school and he was released from the Marion County Jail after posting $1,000 cash bond. He was scheduled for a November 9 pretrial hearing in the case.
