MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Coroner’s Office is investigating a Friday afternoon train and vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 60-year-old Patoka woman on Westline Road in rural Odin.

According to Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon, just before 4 p.m. Friday, Sheri J. Foltz was southbound on Westline Road approximately a half-mile north of U.S. 50 when her vehicle was struck by an Amtrak passenger train traveling southwest through the crossing.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies and United Medical Services arrived soon after and attempted to resuscitate Foltz without success.

The Coroner pronounced her dead at the scene. The crossing is marked with crossbuck signage only.

Illinois State Police personnel also assisted with the on-scene investigation. Odin Fire Department personnel also responded and assisted.
