CLAY COUNTY — A charge of attempted murder has been dismissed against a 48-year-old Clay City woman.
Laura Bricker was arrested and charged in September with Class X attempted murder and Class 1 felony residential arson for burning down the rural Clay City home of Zebulen Oestreich in late June with the intent to kill him.
Oestereich was not injured in the incident as he was not home at the time and signed an affidavit filed with the Court that he did not want her prosecuted. State’s Attorney Phil Givens said Bricker did not have a prior criminal history, but she now has a Felony conviction.
In addition to dismissing the attempted murder charge, Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens reduced the residential arson charge to a simple count of arson.
Judge Joel Powless on Monday sentenced Bricker to 180 days in jail and placed her on four years’ probation. Bricker must also pay more than $5,000 in fines and must undergo drug treatment.
She was given credit for time served since her arrest.
