FRANKLIN COUNTY — A 31-year-old Mississippi woman was formally charged Thursday in Franklin County Court in Southern Illinois in connection with a stabbing and fire Wednesday on a Greyhound bus traveling on southbound Interstate 57.

Takyra Tazsane Netterville is facing one count of Class X felony aggravated arson knowing people present stemming from a seat in the moving bus being set on fire. She’s also facing two counts of Class 3 felony aggravated battery in connection with the stabbing of another passenger on the bus. According to Illinois State Police, that passenger was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Nearly a dozen troopers responded to shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday to the call of a fire involving a Greyhound bus on southbound I-57 near milepost 62 in Franklin County.

The incident had traffic in that area at a crawl, as luggage and passengers were standing on the side of the interstate.

According to ISP, the fire was extinguished and the remaining passengers were transported from the scene to a safe location.

Netterville appeared in court Thursday afternoon where she was advised of the charges against her and possible penalties. Judge Thomas Tedeschi found Netterville a danger to others and ordered her detained in the Franklin County Jail. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for March 6.
