SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our entire listening area from 10 AM until 12 noon today.
The NWS is continuing to track the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms across the region, mainly from late this afternoon through late tonight.
They say right now, their main concerns look to be large hail (potentially up to 2 inches in diameter or larger) and damaging winds, but a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out as well.
Overnight storms brought massive chunks of hail to parts of Kansas and Missouri that brought traffic to a standstill along Interstate 70. Descriptions of the hail ranged from the size of golf balls and apples to softballs and baseballs.
