FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Fairfield police responded to two separate pedestrian crashes over the holiday weekend including one involving a 2-year-old child.

According to police reports, around 9 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a 2023 Kia striking a 26-year-old female carrying a 2-year-old child in the 1600 block of West Delaware in Fairfield. Reports show both the woman and child were airlifted for treatment.

Officers arrested the driver of the Kia, 25-year-old Derek Thomason, of Fairfield for aggravated driving under the influence. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail.

Then around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of West Delaware and South First Street.

According to crash reports, 81-year-old pedestrian Peggy Rost, of Fairfield, was walking east in the pedestrian crossing when 89-year-old Ivan Pottorff, of Fairfield, was driving his 2018 Honda and turned north onto South First Street and struck Rost in the crosswalk.

She was transported to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Pottorff was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
