CARMI – The Carmi DMV facility on Oak Street will be closed Thursday so equipment can be moved to its new “temporary” location at the White County Center, located on the Southeastern Illinois College Carmi campus, on College Avenue. It will open Friday at 8:30 a.m.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias says this new facility is a win for White County residents and a win for taxpayers. All employees will retain their jobs working at the new facility. Giannoulias says relocating the Carmi facility allows residents to have a newer, larger facility in a more convenient location that comes without having to use taxpayer dollars to pay rent for basic government services.

State Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) told us Wednesday the reason for the move was because the contract the state had at the previous location expired and the state is negotiating a new contract for the College Avenue location. A formal presentation and approval for the Carmi DMV to be located at the College Avenue location will be presented at next month’s SIC Board of Trustees meeting.

Giannoulias reminds White County residents to visit www.ilsos.gov to explore newly expanded digital services that may allow them to skip a trip to the DMV to renew their driver’s license or vehicle registration.
