PADUCAH – The National Weather Service in Paducah says a Heat Advisory remains in effect for all of southern Illinois until 8 Tuesday night.

Heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees are expected.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms may provide limited relief from the heat Tuesday afternoon for locations along and north of Interstate 64.

You should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of  the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Also make sure your pets have fresh water and a shady place to get out of the heat. If you can, take them inside.

If you have to be outside, take extra precautions like wearing lightweight and loose

fitting clothing, try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening, and take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, so call 911.
