BENTON – Illinois State Police responded to two incidents early Saturday morning on I-57 in Franklin County.
ISP says a semi-truck hit debris in the roadway causing it to leak fuel around 2:45 a.m. on northbound I-57 near Benton.
The Benton Fire Department responded and cleaned up the spill.
I-57 was temporarily closed for cleanup. A tow truck was called to remove the semi from the roadway. It was then reopened.
Then just after 5:30 a.m., a crash involving a truck-tractor trailer hauling rock material and a Toyota sedan happened on southbound I-57 near Benton.
Both vehicles came to a stop in the ditch, with the truck rolling on its side, laying on top of the sedan. No injuries were reported on scene.
Traffic was diverted to the left lane as the remaining lanes were closed so first responders could safely remove the vehicles.
