MARION – A woman was recently cited for possessing meth and other offenses after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw her commit a motor vehicle violation in the area of Illinois 13 and 148.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says around 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, deputies initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle continued an extended distance prior to stopping in a parking lot in the 9000 block of Illinois 148.
When deputies approached the driver, identified as Arena E. Harris, Harris told them she did not have a driver’s license. It was discovered that her license had been revoked and she had a warrant out of Clinton County for Driving While Revoked/DUI, and a warrant out of Union County for Possession of Methamphetamine.
Deputies asked Harris to get out of the vehicle. She was taken into custody without incident and placed in the back of a marked patrol vehicle. She was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
Prior to departing the jail, deputies returned to their vehicle and conducted a routine search of the patrol car. During the search deputies located a clear plastic bag and a white crystal like substance in the floorboard where Harris had been seated. The substance field tested positive for meth.
Harris was read the Miranda warning and then stated that she had dumped the methamphetamine in the floorboard of the patrol vehicle and stepped on it in order to conceal the substance from deputies.
Harris was cited for Possession of Methamphetamine, Driving While License Revoked, No Valid Driver’s License, and Obstructing Justice.
