Bobby Joe Stewart, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 7:58 pm August 30, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born January 6, 1942 in Mount Vernon to the late Ray J. and Pauline (Sinks) Stewart. Bobby Joe married Sandra Carol (Morrison) Stewart on June 29, 1965.

In addition to his beloved wife, Bobby Joe is survived by his son, Bobby Joe Stewart Jr. and wife, Amy of Opdyke; daughter, Amy Thompson and husband, Doug of Opdyke, Illinois; grandchildren, Blake Stewart, Trevor Stewart, Amber Stewart, Emma Thompson, and Ethan Thompson; brothers, Larry Stewart and wife, Sue and Bill Don Stewart and wife, Charlotte; and close friends, Richard and Kathy Smith and William and Carol Newell.

In addition to his parents, Bobby Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth Stewart, Ronald Stewart, Paula Sinks, Betty Johnson, Gary Stewart, Bruce Stewart, Raymond Stewart, and Noel Stewart.

Bobby Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked many years as a boilermaker. Bobby Joe was a member of the VFW, Jefferson County Lodge 0361 in Opdyke, was an Ainad Shriner, and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Bobby Joe will be deeply missed.

Per his wishes, Bobby Joe will be cremated and no services will be held at this time. Memorials may be made in Bobby Joe’s honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
