MT. VERNON – The Jefferson County Fire Protection District says Fire Commissioner Ernie Brown has passed away. He was 83.

The Hughey Funeral Home says Brown died Saturday at his home.

Brown served as Fire Commissioner from 2008 to present.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at East Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Interment will follow.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 tonight at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
