DIX, IL — A semi-trailer fire on southbound I-57 near Dix on Tuesday night created some massive traffic disruptions. The driver was able to safely move the rig to the shoulder and disconnect the cab as flames spread from the back of the trailer to the front. The trailer, owned by Knight Transportation, was loaded with paint products, leading to some spills on the shoulder that required a special cleanup crew. Firefighters arrived at 6:15 p.m. and worked until about 10 p.m., with assistance from Kell and Mt. Vernon City Fire Departments.
