Carmelina Meling Barnett, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:56 am March 28, 2025 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon. She was born July 24, 1939 in Pinamungahan, Cebu, Philippines to the late Sotero Peña and Cecilia (Quibobo) Gines. Carmelina married Alois “Pete” Barnett on October 27, 1979. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2005.

Carmelina is survived by her stepchildren, Barney Barnett of Mount Vernon, Mark Barnett and wife, Traci of Kentucky, Laura Fleener and husband, Tim of Mount Vernon, Dora Pendley and husband, Ben of Kentucky, and Paul Payne of Kentucky; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carmelina was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kay Barnett; stepson, Roy Barnett; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Carmelina was of the Catholic faith. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Graveside Service will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Pastor Jason Newell officiating. Memorials may be made in Carmelina’s honor to Grace Community Church.
