(MT. VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon Police were called to the 400 block of South 17th Street in Mt Vernon on Monday at 2:23 p.m. to a report of a person armed with a handgun. Officers located the suspect, 24 year-old Trazell Sanders, in the area. During the investigation officers also conducted a search of Sanders’ residence in the 400 block of South 17th. During a search of the residence officers located two loaded firearms, methamphetamine, controlled substances, and handgun ammunition. Sanders was taken into custody on charges of Armed Violence, Firearm by Felon, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Sanders was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set. Sanders is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
