(MT. VERNON, IL) — Two individuals have been taken into custody by the Mt. Vernon Police Department in relation to a weekend shooting that left a man dead. Mt Vernon Police Detectives arrested 21 year old Dantrez Brown of Mt. Vernon on a charge of Obstructing Justice on Tuesday afternoon and taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set on the felony charge. Brown is considered innocent until proven guilty. On Monday, authorities arrested a 17 year old male in the 2000 block of Lamar in connection with the homicide death of DeAndray Jackson. The juvenile was charged with Armed Robbery and Mob Action. The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a court appearance in Jefferson County Court. This investigation is on-going with additional arrests expected. Mt. Vernon police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit technicians responded to multiple reports around 5:43 p.m. Friday, of gunshots fired in the area around South 19th and Conger, with one person reported as being shot. Jackson was located in the area and was taken to Crossroads Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mt.
