(CENTRALIA, IL) — Just a reminder that our listening area remains under an Excessive Heat Warning through Saturday evening. High temperatures combined with high humidity will send heat index values this week up to 105 or even 110 degrees. People in the Warning area are advised to avoid poorly ventilated areas and prolonged work in the sun. Use air conditioning in your house or apartment if it is working correctly. If you do not have air conditioning, keep your house or apartment well ventilated with fans, and try to spend some time in an air conditioned environment to give your body a break from the heat. Benton City Hall, Heritage Woods in Benton, Salem Township Hospital, Clay County Hospital in Flora, Odin Care Center in Odin, and the Senior Centers in Nashville and Okawville will be available as cooling centers. Also, look before you lock! Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Make sure outdoor pets have access to plenty of clean water and shade. If possible bring them inside to an air conditioned area.
