(SALEM, IL) — Bail has been set at $35,000 for a 20-year-old Centralia man accused of stealing a pickup truck Friday and then striking the truck’s owner while stealing the vehicle. Jonathan Acuff was formally charged Tuesday with Class 2 possession of a stolen vehicle and in a separate case with Class 2 felony failure to report an accident. Centralia police arrested Acuff early Monday morning after he was allegedly caught while stealing another vehicle. According to police, Joshua Heern suffered minor injuries Friday after being struck by his own truck while in the 500 block of North Beech. Heern reportedly noticed someone around his vehicle and an argument broke out. Heern was then struck by his vehicle when it came across the street, struck a pole and then a house. Heern went to SSM St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries. No one in the home was injured. He told police two black males were involved in the attempted theft of his vehicle. Police have not identified the second suspect. Acuff remains in the Marion County Jail.
