MT. VERNON — After hearing a second reading on possible changes to liquor and video gaming ordinances Monday night, the Mt. Vernon City Council passed a number of changes that will bring video gaming and package sales to retail locations.

The changes will allow for existing package liquor stores to apply for a video gaming license and allow for consumers to purchase beer and wine for consumption.

Other changes include additional licenses with an annual fee increase, the elimination of the Liquor Advisory Board, and the elimination of a Sunday sales fee. Fines for violations and selling to minors increased as well. Each video gaming terminal will now cost vendors $500 each, an increase from $75.

The council also: Had a first reading to vacate a part of the South Water Tower Place cul-de-sac; approved an ordinance setting guidelines for manufactured homes; approved an ordinance allowing for mobile homes in RM-2 zoning districts; granted a condition sign permit at 2210 Benton Road and conducted a budget review for first quarter.
