WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Illinois State Police is investigating a crash Thursday night in Washington County that claimed the life of a 63-year-old Venedy man riding a specialized road bicycle on Illinois Route 15.
According to reports, David Weber was riding his specialized Roubaix Road Bicycle eastbound on Route 15 just west of Little Prairie Road and east of Route 153 near Okawville as a 1997 Ford F150 driven by a 16-year-old juvenile female struck him from behind, causing him to be thrown from the bicycle.
Weber reportedly came to rest to the south of Rt. 15 and the juvenile continued traveling eastbound on Rt. 15, before eventually coming to a stop approximately 0.6 mile east of the crash scene.
Weber was transported to Washington County Hospital, where he passed away.
The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and Illinois State Police District 13.
The local fire department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department provided assistance at the scene.
The juvenile has been cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper passing of bicycle, illegal cell phone usage.
