Two illegal aliens have been sentenced for unlawfully entering the United States.

According to U.S. Attorney Donald S. Boyce, 33-year-old Jose Donaldo Vazques-Santelis of Honduras will spend five years in prison and 40-year-old Vicente Santiago-Castro of Mexico will spend 16 months in prison after both men were previously removed by immigration officials.

Vasquez-Santelis was charged by a federal grand jury in September with being an illegal alien unlawfully present in the U.S. and pled guilty to that offense on Oct. 26 of last year. He was arrested by immigration agents on Aug. 7 in Marion. Santiago-Castro was also charged by a federal grand jury in September on the same offense as Vasquez-Santelis and pled guilty to that offense on Oct. 26 of last year. He was arrested by immigration agents on Sept. 2 in Harrisburg.

Vasquez-Santelis had been previously removed or deported from the U.S. on two prior occasions. He claimed that he last came into the country illegally in 2010. Santiago-Castro had previously been removed or deported from the U.S. on seven prior occasions.

Besides their prison terms, both men were ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. Both men will be removed or deported to their respective countries by immigration officials after they serve their prison time.

Following their sentencing, Vasquez-Santelis was returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshal who will hold him until immigration agents take him into custody. As for Santiago-Castro, he was returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending his designation to a facility by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
