A 54-year-old Olney man is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday morning in Richland County court for the predatory criminal sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl in 2016.

Glen R. Ramey filed an open plea of guilty in January to Class X predatory criminal sexual assault in exchange for a first-degree murder charge for the strangling death of Sabrina Stauffenberg being dismissed.

A Class X felony is punishable by up to 60 years in prison, but Ramey has been advised that despite that sentencing guideline, as a sexually violent or sexually dangerous person he could be civilly incarcerated for an indefinite period following his prison term.

If he does gain release from prison, Ramey will have to register for life as a sexual predator. Ramey remains in the Richland County Jail where he has been held since his arrest for the November 23, 2016, slaying of Stauffenberg.

The child’s body was found behind a vinegar plant on the south side of Olney, a town in southeastern Illinois of about 9,000 people.

According to prosecutors, Ramey suffocated Sabrina on or around Nov. 23. Relatives told authorities they last saw her waiting on her front porch for a ride to church.
