A Sesser man is facing tentative charges of robbery, aggravated battery and two counts of theft after Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a theft report in rural Benton Thursday.

Sheriff Don Jones says a 66-year-old man, whose name was not released, had confronted 24-year-old Michael D. Swickard about taking scrap metal from his property without permission.

When the man attempted to detain Swickard while authorities were notified, Swickard assaulted the man and forcibly took the man’s cell phone and left the scene.

Swickard is being held in the Franklin County Jail without bond pending review by the State’s Attorney’s office and the setting of bond by the Circuit Court.
