The City of Mt. Vernon is approaching a State of Emergency due to the major water main break at Rend Lake Conservancy District and water levels for the city and rural water districts are critically low.

At this point the city has approximately 2.5 million gallons of stored water. This amount is less than a normal day’s supply.

It is the city’s understanding that even if the repairs are made soon, it will take RLCD approximately 8 hours to start producing water.

The City of Mt. Vernon is asking that all residents and businesses to strictly limit their water usage to essential services. All non-essential services should suspend operations at this time.
